We could all use a little convenient comfort nowadays. While businesses are beginning to open back up little by little, there are still so many great takeout options to enjoy in the safety and comfort of your own home.
The Parish
This mouth-wateringly amazing southern style gastropub draws inspiration from southern comfort, hospitality, and community — making for a great first stop on our list. The restaurant’s three owners come from Louisiana, Texas, and Arizona, and each brings the best of their state to the table.
Start with some snacks like their black and blue brussels, deep-fried hush puppies, or their signature bacon popcorn paired with their fan-favorite cocktails. Prepare for a feast with one of their dishes like Guedry’s Gumbo with chicken, Andouille sausage, and hush puppies, or their famous Drunken Angel — a mix of shrimp, crawfish, lobster broth, saffron red pepper cream sauce, and fresh parmesan over a bed of burgundy angel hair pasta.
There are so many great fusion flavors to choose from, all available for takeout. And it wouldn’t be comfort food without a bit of sugar, so be sure to pick up their house-made bread pudding for dessert!
El Charro
This time-tested Tucson favorite has been serving the community for nearly 100 years. Their extensive menu has so much to choose from, but we’re sure you’ll find your favorite dish after a few visits!
El Charro offers a wealth of traditional Mexican dishes and also features some unique specials and a wonderfully extensive dessert menu.
Try out the tamale-stuffed chicken topped with a creamy raja sauce, Carlotta’s delicious Chicken Mole with house-made mole sauce, or the Pescado tropical — pan-seared cod on a bed of rice topped with fresh tomatillo sauce, green chile, mango, and avocado-corn salsa.
Ceres
This pasta-centric Italian restaurant is relatively new and started out with a takeout-focused model which has helped them to adapt to the current climate. You can expect traditional bolognese and tomato & basil staple red sauces, but they also feature weekly specials with different flavor-packed sauces, so you never know what new dish you’ll find.
Pasta makes for phenomenal comfort food, but that’s not all that Ceres has on offer. Swing by or call in the morning for some freshly-baked bread and pastries paired with some espresso. Make a second trip at lunchtime to mix-and-match your favorite noodles and sauces, or take some freshly made pasta or house-made sauce to go!
Saguaro Corners
Meat and potatoes are the comfort food, plain and simple. And Saguaro Corners serves up a whole array of comfort staples, including “Grandma’s pretty famous” meatloaf and buttery mashed potatoes.
But if you aren’t up for Grandma’s pretty famous meatloaf, there are a slew of other comfort food favorites with flavorful twists to choose from. Like the shrimp and grits with roasted corn grit cakes, shrimp, Andouille sausage, and smoked tomato butter sauce. The sweet and salty chicken and waffles, or a classic prime Angus New York strip with mashed potatoes, seasonal veggies, and roasted poblano compound butter.
And just to prove that they are the kings of comfort food, Saguaro Corners also has a dedicated mac and cheese section as well.
These are only a few of the many great comfort food flavors that can be found throughout Tucson. So take some time to order a little bit of delicious comfort cuisine to-go!
